What is the solar site survey form template?
A solar quote is only as good as the survey behind it. Get the orientation, pitch or shading wrong and the yield estimate is wrong; miss a full electrical panel and the price changes after the customer has signed. A structured survey means every surveyor collects the same information, every time.
This template covers the customer and property, the mounting location and roof, shading, the electrical service and panel, and the customer's energy use and goals. Roof questions only appear for a roof mount; ground and carport mounts ask about the available area instead. If shading isn't "None", the surveyor must say what causes it, and a note appears when a landlord, HOA or freeholder may need to approve the installation.
Roof and panel photos are required, and bills and shade analysis can be attached. Each survey is filed as a PDF in your FileIt vault, ready for the design team.

1 Customer & property
The surveyor and date, the customer's name, email and phone, and the property address come first. The property type and whether the customer owns or rents are required; if they rent or need HOA or freeholder approval, a note reminds the surveyor to check who must approve. The proposed mounting is roof, ground, or carport.
2 Roof & shading
For a roof mount, the covering, age, condition and rafter or truss size and spacing are recorded; ground and carport mounts describe the available area instead. The direction the main array faces is required, with azimuth, pitch and usable area, plus the number of roof planes for a roof mount.
Shading is none, light, moderate or heavy; anything but none requires the causes — trees, buildings, chimneys, vents, poles or hills. A shade analysis can be uploaded, and photos of the roof or site are required.
3 Electrical
The electrical service type and whether a panel upgrade is needed are required. The panel make, busbar rating, main breaker, spare breaker spaces, meter location, proposed inverter or battery location, estimated cable run and Wi-Fi coverage follow, and photos of the panel, meter and labels are required.
4 Energy use & goals
Annual electricity use, the average monthly bill, the utility and tariff are recorded, and recent bills can be attached. The customer's planned changes — EV, heat pump, pool, extension, electric cooking — and what matters most to them are captured, with battery interest required. Budget, installation timeline and notes for the designer finish the survey.

Tips for a better solar site survey form
- Photograph every roof plane you'd use and every obstruction on it
- Photograph the panel with the door open and the labels readable
- Ask for twelve months of bills, not one, to capture seasonal use
- Talk through future loads — an EV or heat pump changes the system size
- Record the roof's condition honestly; a re-roof first may be the better advice
- Check approvals early for rented or HOA properties
