What is A-269 — Notification of residence in Iceland?

Form A-269, 'Notification of residence in Iceland (foreign citizens)' (Tilkynning um dvalarstað), is how someone getting an Icelandic residence permit tells Registers Iceland (Þjóðskrá Íslands) their address in Iceland. As part of the residence permit, your legal domicile is registered with Registers Iceland. If you didn't give an address when you applied for the permit, this form is how you do it, and it says plainly that a residence permit cannot be issued until the notification has been submitted.

It's a short English form: your name, date of birth and contact details, your address with the apartment number, postal code and municipality, your landlord's name if you don't know the apartment number, and a dated, signed confirmation. It is handed in at the Directorate of Immigration (Útlendingastofnun) in Kópavogur, or at a District Commissioner's office outside the capital area when you go there to be photographed for your residence permit card.

1 1. Person notifying

Give your name and date of birth, which are required, and optionally your email address and phone number. FileIt prints the date of birth as dd.mm.yyyy.

The form explains that Registers Iceland needs the apartment number to register you in the population registry. Common mistakes to avoid

• Leaving out the apartment number without giving the landlord's name. Registers Iceland needs one of them to register you.
• Assuming the permit will be issued without it. The form says residence permits cannot be issued until the notification has been submitted.
• Forgetting to sign. The signature is marked as required.
