What is the eV charger site survey form template?

Most EV charger quotes go wrong for the same few reasons: the panel has no spare way, the supply can't take another 32 amps without load management, the cable route is twice as long as it looked, or the customer needs permission from a landlord. Finding that out on installation day means a revised price and an unhappy customer.

This EV charger site survey template walks the surveyor through the visit in order. It records the customer, property, ownership and where the vehicle is parked, then the vehicle, its maximum AC charging rate, how many charge points are wanted and the features the customer cares about. The supply and panel page captures the phase, ratings, spare ways, earthing arrangement and other large loads, and asks the surveyor to judge capacity. The last page covers the mounting position, cable run and route, trenching, connectivity and approvals.

Panel and location photos are required, so the person writing the quote can see what the surveyor saw. Each survey is filed as a PDF with its photos in your FileIt vault.

The eV charger site survey form, page by page

1 Customer & property

Surveyor, Survey date, the customer's name, email and phone and the Installation address come first. Property type and The customer record who owns the property; anyone renting or needing HOA, strata or freeholder approval sees a reminder to get written permission. Where is the vehicle parked? covers driveways, garages, carports and shared car parks, and choosing on-street only shows a note to check local rules before quoting.

2 Vehicle & charger

Vehicle make and model and Vehicle's maximum AC charging rate help size the charger. A second EV planned?, Number of charge points and Charger style — tethered, untethered or undecided — follow. Features wanted covers off-peak scheduling, solar surplus charging, load balancing, app control, RFID access and usage reports, with an optional preferred make or model.

3 Supply & panel

Supply records single, split or three phase. Main fuse or service rating, Panel or consumer unit make, Panel rating, Spare ways and Earthing or grounding arrangement capture the installation. Other large loads on the supply lists heat pumps, showers, cooking, hot tubs, solar, batteries and existing chargers. Supply capacity for the charger records the surveyor's judgement, and photos of the meter, main fuse and panel are required.

4 Location & cable run

Charger mounted on, Mounting surface and the Vehicle's charge port position set the location. Cable run, Wall or floor penetrations and Cable route follow; an underground trench asks for its length and the ground to dig through. Connectivity at the charger, required location and route photos, permissions or utility notifications and Notes for the quote close the survey.

Make the template yours

  • Change the units in the cable run and trench labels to the one your team uses
  • Edit the earthing placeholder to match your country's terms
  • Add your standard charger models as a dropdown
  • Remove the multi-unit and workplace options if you only do homes
  • Send a customer version with only page 1 and photo uploads for remote surveys
  • Add the design or quoting team's address to notifications

Tips for a better eV charger site survey form

  • Photograph the main fuse rating and panel labels close up, not only the whole board
  • Measure the cable route along the path the cable will take, not in a straight line
  • Check the charge port position before choosing the mounting wall
  • Test Wi-Fi at the charger location with your phone before relying on it
  • Note other large loads — they decide whether load management is needed

Every response becomes a PDF in your vault

Each survey is saved as a PDF in the vault folder you choose, with every panel and location photo attached. The office is notified straight away, and a copy is emailed to the Customer email entered on the first page — turn off the respondent copy in the form's settings if surveys stay internal.

In the Responses table you can filter surveys by property type or supply capacity and export to CSV to track how many jobs need upgrades.
