What is UDK 290 — Power of attorney for pension?

UDK 290_ENG is Udbetaling Danmark's English letter of attorney (fuldmagt) for pension matters. With it you name a representative — a relative, a friend or an adviser — who can deal with Udbetaling Danmark about your Danish pension. It covers state pension (folkepension), disability pension, senior pension, international pension, foreign pension, early retirement pension, the flexi job scheme and the senior benefit scheme.

You choose between two levels. An unlimited power of attorney lets the representative act for you and receive all your correspondence — apply for pension, report changes, complain and discuss your case. A limited power of attorney only lets them discuss your case with Udbetaling Danmark, Pension, while you keep managing it and receiving the letters. It is especially useful if you live abroad and receive, or are applying for, a Danish pension.

When to use UDK 290 — Power of attorney for pension

Before applying for a Danish pension, if someone else will do the application or follow-up for you.
When your health or circumstances make it hard to deal with Udbetaling Danmark yourself.
When you move abroad and want someone in Denmark to receive and deal with your pension correspondence.
When you want to change or add a representative — the new power of attorney replaces the former one. You can revoke it at any time by contacting Udbetaling Danmark.

How to fill out UDK 290 — Power of attorney for pension, step by step

1 Your data (the represented person)

Your name, Danish civil registration number (CPR number), address and telephone number. The CPR number goes into ten separate boxes, six before the dash and four after; FileIt splits it for you. If you live abroad, give your full foreign address.

2 Enter name of representative

The name, CPR number, address and telephone number of the person receiving the power of attorney. If your representative has no Danish CPR number, leave those boxes empty and make sure the name and address are complete.

3 Select type of power of attorney

Unlimited power of attorney authorises the representative to act on your behalf in the matter and to receive all your correspondence — for example applying for pension, reporting changes that affect your benefits, filing complaints and discussing your case with Udbetaling Danmark.

Limited power of attorney only authorises the representative to discuss your case with Udbetaling Danmark, Pension. You still manage your own interests and keep receiving all correspondence. If you want to give more rights than that, the form asks you to contact Udbetaling Danmark.

4 Digital power of attorney

The form also mentions a separate digital power of attorney that lets a representative help you with web forms and self-service portals. That is set up online through lifeindenmark.dk, not on this paper form.

5 Date and signature (the represented person)

Common mistakes to avoid

Having the representative sign instead of you. Only the represented person signs this form.
Choosing 'limited' when the representative needs to apply or report changes for you — limited only allows discussing your case.
Typing the CPR number wrongly. The first six digits are the date of birth (DDMMYY); FileIt checks that they form a real date.
Forgetting that a new power of attorney replaces any earlier one — the old representative loses their authority.
Emailing the form without thinking about security. The form warns that email to [email protected] is not secure; digital post is the secure route.
Using this form for other Danish benefits. It is for pension matters handled by Udbetaling Danmark.
