What is the website content collection form template?
On most website projects, design and build aren't what holds up launch — content is. The homepage text is "nearly done", the logo arrives as a blurry screenshot, team photos are scattered across emails, and nobody has written a privacy policy yet.
This website content collection form puts everything in one place. The first page captures the business name, domain, tagline, the email and phone to show on the site, whether to show an address and map, opening hours and social links. The second page takes the logo, brand colours and fonts, then homepage, about and services text — or Word documents for clients who prefer writing offline — along with testimonials and FAQs.
The third page covers an optional team page with bios and photos, website photos and where they came from, the legal pages the client will provide and a preferred launch date. The client confirms they have the right to publish everything they've supplied, and the whole submission is saved as a PDF in your FileIt vault with every file attached.

The website content collection form, page by page
1 Business details
The client enters their name and email, the business name as it should appear, domain name and tagline. Separate fields capture the email and phone number to show on the website, which are often different from the client's own.
Show a business address and map? is required; yes reveals the address to show. Opening hours and social media links, one per line, complete the page.
2 Brand & page text
The logo upload is required and asks for the highest-quality version available. Brand colours and fonts follow, then the homepage text — headline, introduction and what visitors should do — about us text, and services or products, each required.
Clients who'd rather write in Word can upload up to 10 documents instead. Optional boxes take testimonials, with a reminder to include only those they have permission to publish, and FAQs.
3 Team, photos & legal
Include a team page? is required; yes reveals required team bios and an upload for team photos. Photos for the website accept up to 10 images, and a required question records whether they're owned, licensed stock, a mix or still to be sourced.
A checklist records the legal pages the client will provide — privacy policy, terms, cookie policy, returns policy or accessibility statement — with a note that wording should come from the client or their adviser, and an upload when any are ticked. A preferred launch date, notes and a required permission to publish finish the form.
Make the template yours
- Add a text box for each page in the agreed sitemap instead of the general page fields
- Remove the team section for sole traders or sites without one
- Add a blog section asking for the first few articles
- Send personal links to each client, prefilled with their name and email
- File each submission in that client's vault folder
- Edit the confirmation message to explain what happens next in your process
Tips for a better website content collection form
- Send this after the sitemap is agreed, so the client knows which pages they're writing for
- Ask for original image files rather than screenshots or images saved from social media
- Check photo sources before launch, especially anything taken from the web
- Set a content deadline in your project plan and remind clients before it
- Point clients to a template or adviser for legal pages instead of writing them yourself
- Accept partial submissions — clients can submit again with the rest
Every response becomes a PDF in your vault
Each submission is saved as a PDF in the vault folder you choose, with the logo, documents, photos and legal files attached. You're emailed when it arrives, and the client can receive a copy of what they sent.
Clients can submit more than once, so missing pieces can follow later. The Responses table lists every submission so you can check what's in and what's still outstanding.
- Start from this template. It opens in the FileIt Forms designer — change any question, add pages, set the rules for when questions appear.
- Share it. Turn on a public link, or send it to people by email, each with their own link. They don’t need a FileIt account.
- Get the answers as PDFs. Each response is saved as a PDF in the vault folder you choose, with uploaded files attached — and listed in a Responses table you can export to CSV.
Website content collection form: frequently asked questions
Is this template free?
Yes. It's included in the FileIt Forms app on every account, including the free plan, and every question can be edited, removed or added to.
Does my client need a FileIt account?
No. Anyone with the form's link can fill it in without creating a FileIt account.
How many files can clients upload?
Up to 10 page documents, 10 website photos, 10 team photos, 3 logo files and 5 legal documents, each up to 10 MB. You can change the limits and accepted types in the designer.
Can clients send content in more than one go?
Yes. The form allows multiple submissions, so clients can send what's ready now and the rest later.
Can I upload an SVG logo?
SVG files aren't accepted by FileIt uploads. Ask for PNG or PDF here, and request an SVG separately if you need one.
Do you write the legal pages?
No. The form asks which legal pages the client will provide and notes that the wording should come from them or their adviser.
How is this different from the new website questionnaire?
The questionnaire scopes a project — goals, pages and budget. This form collects the actual content once the project is under way.
Does it record permission to publish?
Yes. The client must confirm they have the right to use and publish the text, logos and images supplied.
