What is a farrier services agreement?
A farrier services agreement turns a regular round into clear terms: which horses get what, how often, what the owner must have ready for each visit, and what happens when a horse isn't caught or a visit is cancelled at the last minute.
This template covers the horses and services, the visit interval, the owner's duty to present each horse caught, clean and on a safe, level surface with a handler when needed, disclosure of lameness or difficult behaviour, the farrier's right to stop for safety, a clear statement that the farrier is not a vet, working with the horse's vet on remedial shoeing, a price list and call-out charge, lost shoes, notice to move a visit, a missed-visit charge and notice to end the arrangement. FileIt places the signature and date boxes for the farrier and the owner.

Using the farrier services agreement, step by step
1 List the horses
Enter where the horses are kept, then each horse with a short description and its service — trim, front shoes, full set or remedial work.
2 Set the schedule
Enter the usual interval between visits and, optionally, the horses' vet so you can discuss hoof care with them.
3 Add your prices
Paste your price list, any call-out or travel charge and when payment is due.
4 Appointment rules and send
Set the notice needed to move a visit, the missed-visit charge and the notice to end the arrangement, then add the owner as a signer.
Tips before you send it
- In some countries only registered farriers may shoe horses. Add your registration if you hold one.
- Ask owners to disclose kicking or difficulty with feet before the first visit — the template requires it.
- The template gives a free replacement for a shoe lost within 7 days of fitting, unless the horse or conditions pulled it.
- Leave diagnosis to the vet. The template says the farrier flags problems and the owner gets veterinary advice.
Sign it online in minutes
- Fill in the blanks. Names, dates and amounts go straight into the agreement — the preview shows exactly where.
- Name who signs. Tick “This is me” for your own part. FileIt builds the PDF with every signature, date box on the right line, and you can check or move anything before sending.
- Send it. Each signer gets a secure link and signs from any device — no account needed. The signed PDF, with an audit trail and a Certificate of Completion, is filed in your vault and emailed to everyone.
Farrier services agreement: frequently asked questions
What counts as a missed visit?
A visit cancelled with less than the notice you set, or a horse that isn't available or ready at the appointment time. The owner pays the missed-visit charge unless it was an emergency or the farrier waives it.
Can the farrier refuse to work on a horse?
Yes. The farrier may refuse or stop if a horse is dangerous to handle or its condition means a vet should be involved first. If that's because the horse wasn't presented properly or its behaviour wasn't disclosed, the missed-visit charge may apply.
Can I add more horses later?
Yes. New horses can be added by agreement, including by message, at the prices in the agreement.
Is it valid if signed online?
In most countries, including the US (ESIGN Act and UETA), the UK, the EU (eIDAS) and Canada, an electronic signature is generally valid for an ordinary services contract like this one. FileIt keeps an audit trail and a Certificate of Completion with the signed PDF as evidence of who signed and when.
Can I change the wording?
You fill in the blanks and choose the options on the setup page; optional clauses appear only when you fill them in. If you need different clauses, draft your own document and upload it to FileIt eSignature instead — you can still place the signature boxes in the editor.
Is this template free?
Yes. The template is free to use with the eSignature app in FileIt. The person you send it to doesn't need a FileIt account to sign.
