What is BIR Form 1901 registration (self-employed)?

Anyone starting a business or practising a profession in the Philippines registers with the BIR using Form 1901. It covers single proprietors, licensed and unlicensed professionals, mixed-income earners who also have a job, resident and non-resident aliens in business, and estates and trusts.

The form asks for your details and addresses, an ID, your preferred contact, whether you'll use the 8% income tax option, your expected gross sales, your spouse, an authorized representative, your business registrations, the invoices you'll use and any multiple employments. You file it at your Revenue District Office with the documentary requirements, or register through ORUS online.

FileIt prints your answers onto the BIR's own October 2025 PDF: capitals in the white boxes, dates in MM/DD/YYYY cells, TINs in their groups and an X in each box you choose, with names with accents printed correctly.

How to fill out BIR Form 1901 registration (self-employed), step by step

1 Part I — you

Choose your taxpayer type, then give your name, gender, civil status, date of birth, parents, citizenship and addresses.

2 ID and contact

Add an ID with its dates, your preferred contact and email, whether you'll avail of the 8% option, and your expected gross sales.

3 Spouse and representative

Switch on Part III if you're married and Part IV if an authorized representative will act for you.

4 Business and invoices

Add your business registrations in Part V, then say whether you'll use BIR Printed Invoices or an Authority to Print.

5 Multiple employments and declaration

Mixed-income earners with two or more employers fill in Part IX. Sign above your printed name.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying for a new TIN when you already have one: the form warns that having more than one TIN is criminally punishable.
  • Choosing the wrong taxpayer type, for example Professional instead of Mixed Income Earner when you also have a job.
  • Long addresses that don't fit the boxes; FileIt asks you to abbreviate rather than cut them.
  • Forgetting the loose documentary stamp or the ID photocopy.

After you fill it out

Sign above your printed name and file the form at your RDO with the documentary requirements on page 4.

Pay the registration requirements on the form and receive your Certificate of Registration.

File BIR Form 1906 if you'll have your own invoices printed.

FileIt keeps the completed PDF in your vault.
