What is IR7 Partnership and LTC return 2026?

A partnership or look-through company (LTC) doesn't pay income tax itself. It files an IR7 that adds up everything it earned during the year, then attributes the result to its partners or owners, who each include their share in their own return. The attribution details go on an IR7P (partnership) or IR7L (LTC) schedule attached to the return.

The 2026 IR7 covers the income year 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. The form says Inland Revenue must receive it by 7 July 2026 unless the partnership or LTC has an extension of time or a non-standard balance date, and it's posted to Inland Revenue, PO Box 39090, Wellington Mail Centre, Lower Hutt 5045.

FileIt fills in Inland Revenue's own 2026 IR7, one letter or digit per box. It works out Box 15E (adjusted LTC income), the residential total 18E, total income at Box 22 and income after expenses at Box 24, prints the minus sign for a loss in the right box, and lays an 8-digit IRD number out from the second box. The figures themselves come from your accounts and the IR7 guide.

How to fill out IR7 Partnership and LTC return 2026, step by step

1 Details

Give the IRD number, name, trading name, postal and street addresses, BIC code and phone number, and say whether this is the first return or the partnership or LTC has ceased.

2 Income

Answer questions 10 to 21 Yes or No. Only the boxes for a Yes are shown, and a box only counts toward the totals when its question is Yes. Tick the loss box for any amount that's a loss.

3 LTC and residential boxes

For income from another LTC, FileIt works out 15E from 15B, 15C and 15D. For residential property, choose the method and FileIt adds up 18E.

4 Totals

FileIt adds the income boxes into Box 22, takes off the expenses at Box 23 and prints the income after expenses at Box 24, which is attributed to the partners or owners.

5 Attribution and disclosure

Say whether the attached details are an IR7P or an IR7L, and whether additional disclosure of foreign investments is needed.

6 Sign

A partner or representative signs and dates the declaration, by hand or through FileIt's eSignature.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Typing a minus sign into an amount. Tick the loss box instead and the minus prints in the form's last box.
  • Leaving off the cents. Each money box has two cents cells, so enter amounts like 1250.00.
  • Answering question 15 for a partnership. It's only for look-through companies.
  • Forgetting the IR7P or IR7L, which the partners or owners rely on for their own returns.
  • Printing the tax preparer's address in Box 4 instead of the partnership's own postal address.

After you fill it out

Download the PDF, sign it, attach the IR7P or IR7L and any papers to the top of page 4, and post it to Inland Revenue, PO Box 39090, Wellington Mail Centre, Lower Hutt 5045.

Give every partner or owner their share so they can include it in their individual return.

Keep a copy. The filled return stays in your FileIt vault.
