What is CS01 Confirmation statement?
Every UK company must file a confirmation statement with Companies House at least once a year. It confirms that the information on the public register about the company is up to date, and that the company's intended future activities are lawful. Form CS01 is the paper version. Filing online is quicker and costs less, but paper is still accepted.
The main form is short: the company number and name, the confirmation date, the lawful purpose tick, and the printed name of the person authenticating it. Changes to the SIC code, statement of capital, shareholders, trading status of shares, the registered email address and directors' identity verification go on separate additional parts. Changes to officers, people with significant control or the registered office are filed on their own forms, before or at the same time.
FileIt fills in the main CS01 for you: it splits the company number and date into the form's single-letter boxes, fits long company names across both lines, and prints accented names correctly. It also warns you if you're past the 14-day deadline. You print it and post it to Companies House with the fee. FileIt never files anything.

- Every private and public limited company registered in England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, including dormant companies.
- Directors and company secretaries who prefer to file on paper, or can't use the online service.
- Accountants and company formation agents filing for a client company. They can add their details in the presenter box.

When to use CS01 Confirmation statement
- Once a year, within 14 days after the confirmation date shown on the Companies House register.
- Earlier if you like. You can make a statement at any time during the confirmation period, and that sets a new confirmation date.
- Together with the right additional parts if the company's SIC code, share capital, shareholders or share trading status have changed.
What you need before you start
- The 8-character company number and the company name exactly as registered.
- The confirmation date. Check it free at find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk.
- The name of the director, secretary or authorised person authenticating the form.
- Any additional parts you need (Parts 1 to 6) and the separate forms for officer, PSC or registered office changes.

- A cheque or postal order for £110 payable to 'Companies House', if this is the company's first confirmation statement this year.
What’s on CS01 Confirmation statement
The 2026 edition has 3 pages. FileIt asks for it in 4 parts:
- 1 Company details and 2 Confirmation dateCompany (director or authorised person)
- 4 Confirmation statement and authenticationCompany (director or authorised person)
- Presenter information (optional)Company (director or authorised person)
- Checklist (optional)Company (director or authorised person)
How to fill out CS01 Confirmation statement, step by step
1 1 Company details
Write the company number, one character per box, and the company name in full exactly as it appears on the public register. Long names continue on the second line.
2 2 Confirmation date
Give the date the statement is made up to. You must deliver the form within 14 days of this date. Making a statement earlier in the confirmation period changes your next confirmation date.
3 3 Lawful purpose statement
Tick the box to confirm that the company's intended future activities are lawful. Forms without the tick may be returned.
4 4 Confirmation statement and authentication
The statement confirms that all information the company must deliver for the confirmation period has been delivered or is being delivered with this form. The person authenticating (a director, secretary, person authorised, charity commission receiver and manager, CIC manager or judicial factor) prints their name. No signature is needed, and the name appears on the public record.
5 Presenter information and checklist
The presenter box is optional. Filling it in helps Companies House contact someone if there's a query, but those details are visible on the public record. The checklist reminds you of the common reasons forms are returned: name and number matching the register, the lawful purpose tick, any additional parts, Part 5 if needed, authentication, directors' identity verification and the fee.
Common mistakes to avoid
- A company name or number that doesn't match the public register exactly.
- Missing the 14-day deadline after the confirmation date.
- Forgetting to tick the lawful purpose statement.
- Trying to change directors, PSCs or the registered office on the CS01. Those need their own forms.
- Leaving out the directors' identity verification details, or Part 5 when it applies.
- Sending no fee with the first confirmation statement of the year, or making the cheque payable to anyone other than 'Companies House'.
- Printing the form scaled down. Companies House asks for forms printed full size on white A4 paper.
After you fill it out
Print the CS01 from FileIt at full size on white A4 paper, add any additional parts or continuation pages you need, and check the name and number against the register.
Send it to the Companies House address for your company's jurisdiction (see gov.uk/companies-house/offices), with the £110 fee if it's the first statement this year. Some forms can be uploaded instead of posted. FileIt doesn't file it for you.
Keep a copy in the company's FileIt folder and note the next confirmation date, so you get a reminder before the next one is due.

How often do I need to file a CS01?
At least once every year. You must deliver it within 14 days of the confirmation date, and you can file earlier in the confirmation period, which resets your next date.
How much does the paper CS01 cost?
Companies House says it costs £110 to file on paper, with the first confirmation statement each year. Further statements in the same year don't need a fee. Filing online costs less.
Does the CS01 need a signature?
No. The form says to enter your printed name and that you do not need to include a signature. The name appears on the public record.
Can I change directors or the registered office on the CS01?
No. File those changes separately, before or at the same time as the confirmation statement.
What are Parts 1 to 6?
Additional parts for changes to the SIC code (1), statement of capital (2), trading status of shares and PSC exemption (3), shareholder information (4), the registered email address (5) and directors' identity verification (6). They are separate PDFs on the GOV.UK page. FileIt fills the main form.
Who can authenticate the confirmation statement?
A director, secretary, person authorised under section 270 or 274 of the Companies Act 2006, charity commission receiver and manager, CIC manager or judicial factor.
Is the confirmation statement the same as the old annual return?
It replaced the annual return. The CS01 confirms the company's information is up to date rather than repeating it all.
