What is a shooting range waiver?
Every range briefs shooters on the same fundamentals, and every range needs to know those fundamentals were understood and agreed. This waiver puts them in writing: the core firearm safety rules, mandatory eye and ear protection, what to do on a cease-fire, and that nobody shoots after drinking or taking anything that affects judgement.
You name the range, the type of shooting offered and the visit date, and choose whether the waiver covers one visit, a year or a membership. You can record the ID or licence you checked, as your local rules require. Shooters state their experience; first-timers agree to a briefing and to shoot with an instructor. For young shooters, a parent signs and the parent or an instructor stays beside them whenever they handle a firearm. Personal firearms and ammunition can be inspected, lead hygiene is covered, and the shooter pays for damage caused by breaking the rules. The release goes as far as the law allows, and every page is initialled.

Using the shooting range waiver, step by step
1 Set up your range
Your range name fills in. Describe the shooting offered, the date and how long the waiver lasts.
2 Record the shooter
The shooter's name and date of birth, their experience, and the ID or licence you checked if your rules require it.
3 Parent option for juniors
For under-18s, choose the parent option; the form commits the parent or an instructor to stay beside the shooter. Minimum ages follow your policy and local law.
4 Sign at the counter or in advance
The shooter signs and initials each page on a tablet or their phone, you countersign, and the waiver is filed in your FileIt vault.
Tips before you send it
- Brief the safety rules and cease-fire command out loud as well — the waiver supports your briefing, not the other way round.
- Firearms, licensing and age rules vary widely; check what applies where you operate.
- Refuse anyone who seems affected by alcohol or drugs, even if they've signed.
- Provide handwashing facilities near the exit to deal with lead residue.

- Send it. Each signer gets a secure link and signs from any device — no account needed. The signed PDF, with an audit trail and a Certificate of Completion, is filed in your vault and emailed to everyone.
Shooting range waiver: frequently asked questions
Which safety rules are included?
Treat every firearm as loaded, keep the muzzle downrange, finger off the trigger until ready to shoot, know your target and what's beyond it, and load only at the line when told.
Can young people shoot under this waiver?
A parent can sign for a shooter under 18, and the parent or an instructor stays beside them. Whether and at what age young people may shoot depends on your policy and local law.
Does it cover lead exposure?
It names lead dust as a risk and asks shooters to wash hands and face before eating, drinking or smoking.
Will this waiver protect the range from every claim?
No. It applies to the extent the law allows and leaves out liability that can't be excluded, such as gross negligence in many places.
