What is the weekly meal planner form template?
Ten minutes of planning on a Sunday saves a lot of weeknight stress. You know what's for dinner, the ingredients are already in the house, and fewer vegetables go soft at the back of the fridge. It also tends to cut the grocery bill, because you buy what you'll use rather than what looks good at the store.
This planner lays out each day from Monday to Sunday with four short boxes, "Breakfast", "Lunch", "Dinner" and "Snacks". Fill in as many or as few as you like. Before the days, a quick "This week" checklist lets you say what's different about it: packed lunches, guests, batch cooking, a tight budget, or "Someone has dietary needs or allergies". Ticking that one opens a list of dietary needs and a box to note who needs what.
After the seven days comes the shopping list, grouped the way most stores are laid out, with a place to note who's cooking and what needs using up. Each week's plan is saved as a PDF in your FileIt vault, which turns into a handy archive of meals that worked.

The weekly meal planner form, page by page
1 Meal plan
"Your name" and "Week starting" are required, and "How many people are eating?" is optional. The "This week" checklist has five options. "Someone has dietary needs or allergies" opens the required "Dietary needs" list (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut allergy, halal, kosher, lower sugar and lower salt, plus Other) and "Who needs what?". "Keeping to a tight budget" opens "Grocery budget for the week". Then each day has its own heading and four half-width boxes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. None are required, so leave out the meals you don't need to plan. "Who's cooking when?" and "Leftovers and things to use up" help the week run smoothly. The list itself is split into "Fruit and vegetables", "Meat, fish, dairy and chilled", "Cupboard and pantry" and "Other things to buy". Two dropdowns record "Where are you shopping?" and the "Shopping day", and "Recipes or photos" takes up to five recipe cards or screenshots.
Make the template yours
- Delete the breakfast or snack boxes if you only plan dinners
- Rename the grocery sections to match the aisles of the store you use most
- Add a "Takeaway night" checkbox or a "Cook" dropdown for each day
- Change the dietary list to the needs in your household
- Change the budget's currency to the one you shop in
- Make the form your own by adding a favourite meals list as a paragraph at the top
Tips for a better weekly meal planner form
- Plan around what's already in the fridge first, then fill the gaps
- Cook once, eat twice. Plan Tuesday's lunch from Monday's dinner
- Keep one night flexible for leftovers or plans that change
- Write the shopping list as you plan each day, not afterwards
- Look back at last month's plans when you're short of ideas
Every response becomes a PDF in your vault
Each week's plan becomes a PDF titled with your name and the date, filed in the vault folder you've chosen. If you'd like it on your phone in the store, turn on the emailed copy and the PDF arrives in your inbox.
Every past week stays in the Responses table. Search for a dish to find when you last made it, or export the CSV to see which dinners come up again and again.
- Start from this template. It opens in the FileIt Forms designer — change any question, add pages, set the rules for when questions appear.
- Share it. Turn on a public link, or send it to people by email, each with their own link. They don’t need a FileIt account.
- Get the answers as PDFs. Each response is saved as a PDF in the vault folder you choose, with uploaded files attached — and listed in a Responses table you can export to CSV.
Weekly meal planner form: frequently asked questions
Do I have to fill in every meal?
No. None of the meal boxes are required, so plan only dinners, or only the weekend, if that's what you need.
How does the dietary section work?
Tick "Someone has dietary needs or allergies" under "This week" and a list of needs appears, plus a box to note who needs what. It stays hidden otherwise.

Each submission is one complete plan. Share the link if someone else is planning a week, or keep it to yourself.
Can I upload recipes?
Yes, up to five recipe cards, screenshots or PDFs with the grocery list.
Is this meal planner free?
Yes. It's one of the starter templates in the FileIt Forms app, on every plan including the free one.
