What is a golf cart use waiver?
Golf carts look harmless, but they tip on slopes and sharp turns, passengers fall out, and resort guests sometimes hand the keys to a 12-year-old. Courses, resorts and rental businesses need drivers to confirm they are eligible, agree where they can go and accept responsibility for damage.
This template records the driver, their licence and mobile, the cart and the time it's due back. You choose the eligibility rule (licensed adult, licensed 16-year-old with permission, or an adult shown how to drive by staff), where the cart may go (course paths, resort grounds, or public roads where the law allows) and the passenger limit. The rules cover signs and cart-path-only days, slopes, the brake and key, alcohol and phones. The driver checks the cart first and pays for damage caused while it's in their care, with an optional cap for accidents that never covers rule-breaking. A deposit or card hold can be recorded, and the operator is released to the extent the law allows.

Tips before you send it
- Walk around the cart with the driver and note existing scratches before handing over the key.
- Give resort guests a map that shows where carts may and may not go.
- If carts go on public roads, check local rules on age, licences, lights and registration.
- Service brakes and tyres regularly. A waiver may not protect an operator whose own poor maintenance causes an accident.

Golf cart use waiver: frequently asked questions
Does the driver need a licence?
You choose. The options are a licensed adult, a licensed 16-year-old with your permission, or an adult who has been shown how to drive by your staff.
Can I cap what the driver pays for damage?
Yes. Add a cap for accidental damage. It doesn't apply to deliberate damage, rule-breaking or an unauthorised driver.
Can guests drive on the road?
Only if you choose that option and the law allows golf carts on those roads. Road rules and drink-driving laws then apply.
Does it cover being hit by a golf ball?
No. It mentions being struck by a ball as a separate risk of being on a course, but the release covers the risks of using the cart.
