What is NI 200 - NIS Certificate of Compliance application?

In Trinidad and Tobago, a National Insurance Certificate of Compliance shows that an employer is registered with the National Insurance Board (NIBTT) and up to date with its contributions. Businesses are often asked for one when they bid for government contracts and tenders or apply for licences. Form NI 200 is the one-page application for it.

The form asks for the business name, its employer National Insurance registration number, its address, how many employees it paid at the last payment and when, a phone number and email, how many certificates you need and which NIBTT service centre you will collect them from. The owner, a director or authorised personnel signs it.

FileIt asks each question in plain English and prints your answers in block letters, one letter per box, into NIBTT's own PDF, which is saved in your vault. You then sign it, stamp it and email or hand it in yourself. FileIt never sends it.

  • Employers registered with NIBTT that need proof of National Insurance compliance.
  • Businesses tendering for government or state-agency contracts that ask for an NIS compliance certificate.

  • Owners or directors acting for a business, or staff the business has authorised to apply.

When to use NI 200 - NIS Certificate of Compliance application

  • When a tender, contract or licence asks for a National Insurance Certificate of Compliance.
  • Ahead of a deadline, so there is time for NIBTT to process the request and for you to collect the certificate.
  • When you need several copies, for example for more than one tender. State the number on the form.
  • After bringing contributions up to date, since the certificate reflects the employer's NIS record.

What you need before you start

  • The business or company's registered name.
  • The employer National Insurance registration number.
  • The business address: street, city and country.
  • The number of employees paid at the last payment and the date of that payment.

How to fill out NI 200 - NIS Certificate of Compliance application, step by step

1 Business details

Enter the business name across the two rows of boxes, the employer registration number and the address. The street goes on the first address row. The city and the country share the second row.

2 Employees and contact

Give the number of employees at the last payment and the date of that payment (DD/MM/YYYY), the phone number in its ten boxes and the company email.

3 Certificates and collection

Say how many certificates you need and pick the NIBTT service centre you will collect them from. The form lists Arima, Barataria, Chaguanas, Couva, Point Fortin, Port of Spain, Princes Town, Rio Claro, San Fernando, Sangre Grande, Scarborough, Siparia, Tunapuna and Woodbrook.

4 Signatory and declaration

Give the signatory's name in block letters, their office and the date. The same date prints by the authorised signature and under the declaration. Sign both places by hand and stamp the company stamp box.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using the wrong number. The employer registration number is the business's, not a worker's NIS number.
  • Leaving a question blank. The form says to answer all questions.
  • Forgetting the company stamp or one of the two signatures.
  • Splitting the business name mid-word across the two rows.
  • Signing in a colour other than blue or black.

After you fill it out

Print the form, sign it in blue or black ink in both places and add the company stamp.

Email it to [email protected], or print it in duplicate and hand it in at the nearest NIBTT service centre, as the form says. FileIt doesn't send it.

Collect the certificate at the service centre you chose.

Keep a copy with your tender or contract file.
