What is FK 6220 A1 certificate request (posted or multi-country work)?

An A1 certificate shows which country's social security rules apply to you while you work in another EU/EEA country or Switzerland. A certificate under a social security agreement does the same for countries Sweden has an agreement with. FK 6220 (Begäran Intyg A1 eller intyg enligt socialförsäkringsavtal) is how you ask Försäkringskassan for one, whether you are posted to one country or regularly work in two or more.

The five-page form starts with your details and how you work: employed (up to two employers), self-employed (up to two businesses) or hired out by a staffing agency. Then you fill in either section 3, for work in one country, or section 5, for work in several. Your employer completes section 4 for a posting, or 5.c if you are flight or cabin crew.

FileIt takes you through the parts that apply in English, checks personnummer and organisation numbers, makes sure the shares of work across countries add up to 100 percent, and prints your answers onto Försäkringskassan's own FK 6220 with Swedish and Polish letters intact. The PDF is saved in your vault, ready for you and your employer to sign.

How to fill out FK 6220 A1 certificate request (posted or multi-country work), step by step

1 1. You

Name, personnummer or samordningsnummer, address, country and citizenship. FileIt prints your personnummer on every page header too.

2 2, 2.a, 2.b How you work

Fill in the parts that apply: section 2 for up to two employers, 2.a for up to two businesses (including whether the business will be kept going while you are away), and 2.b if a staffing agency has hired you out.

3 3. One country

The employer or workplace abroad, the expected posting period, any work abroad just before the posting, and family coming with you, with their personnummer.

4 4. The employer's part for a posting

An authorised person at your employer, such as the HR manager, answers questions about your employment and the posting: who pays your salary, where contributions are paid, whether the employer directs the work and whether you replace someone. They also describe the company's activity in Sweden, then date and sign.

5 5. Two or more countries

Tick each country you will work in with your share of work there, give the period you work in several countries and the period you want the certificate for, and describe up to two employers or businesses abroad. Flight and cabin crew's employers fill in 5.c with the home base.

6 6-7. Other information and signature

Anything else Försäkringskassan should know, then date, sign and print your name.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Filling in both section 3 and section 5; you need only one of them.
  • Shares of work across countries that don't add up to 100 percent.
  • Asking for a certificate far more than 12 months ahead without expecting to apply again.
  • Forgetting the employer's signature in 4.b or 5.c.
  • Not sending the employment contracts that show how much you work in each country.

After you fill it out

Print the form, sign it, have your employer sign its part, and post it with the documents listed on page 5 to Försäkringskassans inläsningscentral, 839 88 Östersund. FileIt doesn't send it for you.

Keep the filled PDF in your FileIt vault together with the certificate when it arrives, so you can show it to authorities abroad and know when to apply again.
