What is INZ 1024 parent category sponsorship?
Under New Zealand's Parent Category, an adult child who is a citizen or resident can sponsor their parents for residence. The sponsor (and a second sponsor, when joint income is used to meet the minimum income requirement) completes the INZ 1024 and gives it to the person they're sponsoring for their residence application.
The form checks your eligibility, records your details, any parents you've sponsored before and your contact details, names the principal applicant and their partner, and ends with a statutory declaration of the sponsor's undertakings: accommodation, financial support and repatriation costs for ten years.
FileIt fills Immigration New Zealand's own fillable PDF in capital letters, as the form asks, prints names with accents correctly, repeats your names and addresses in the declaration, and saves the finished form in your vault. You then sign it in front of a Justice of the Peace, lawyer or notary.

How to fill out INZ 1024 parent category sponsorship, step by step
1 Eligibility
Answer the eligibility questions for you and, if there is one, the second sponsor. A No to any of them means you can't sponsor under this category.
2 Section A — your details
Give your name as in your passport, date of birth, citizenship and residence history, the eligibility questions A7-A17, any parents you've sponsored before and your contact details.
3 Section B — second sponsor
Switch on Section B only when a second sponsor contributes towards the income requirement.
4 Section C — the people you sponsor
Name the principal applicant and their partner, their country of residence, your relationship and their address.
5 Section D — declaration
Add your occupation. FileIt prints your names and addresses in the declaration; you sign it in front of the witness, who completes their part.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Signing the declaration before you're in front of the witness.
- Using joint income without completing Section B for the second sponsor.
- Leaving out evidence of your immigration status or income, which can get the form returned.
- Getting help from an unlicensed adviser: Immigration New Zealand returns forms where the adviser should have been licensed.
After you fill it out
Sign Section D in front of a Justice of the Peace, lawyer or notary, together with the second sponsor if there is one.
Attach the documents on the form's checklist and give everything to the person you're sponsoring.
They include the form with their Parent Category residence application.
FileIt keeps a copy of the completed PDF in your vault.
