What is INZ 1014 financial undertaking for a student?

INZ 1014 is supporting information for a New Zealand student visa application. A third party (the guarantor) uses it to undertake to Immigration New Zealand that they will support the student named on the form for a set length of time. Only one person can support each student. A person must be a relative or friend of the student; a company, trust or other organisation must nominate an individual as its authorised contact.

The form asks for the student's name and planned length of stay, the guarantor's details, any students the guarantor has supported before, and what the guarantor accepts responsibility for. The June 2025 edition prints the maintenance rates: NZ$17,000 a year (NZ$1,417 a month) for a student at primary, intermediate or secondary school, or NZ$20,000 a year (NZ$1,667 a month) for a tertiary or non-compulsory student, plus outward travel and maternity health services, which may cost at least NZ$9,000.

What you need before you start

The student's name exactly as in their passport, and the length of stay they are applying for.
Your full name, other names, gender, date and place of birth and citizenship (or, for an organisation, its name, description and addresses and your position).
Your home address, phone numbers and email, and your Immigration New Zealand client number if you have one.
Names and dates of birth, arrival and departure of any students you have supported before.
Bank statements for the previous three months, or your bank's confirmation in Section E.
Evidence of your relationship with the student and a copy of your passport's identity page or an identity document.

How to fill out INZ 1014 financial undertaking for a student, step by step

1 Section A: The student

The student's family name and given names as in their passport, and the length of the stay (years and months) they are applying for.

2 Section B: You as guarantor

A relative or friend answers B1 to B6: names, gender, date and place of birth, citizenship, home address and phone. An organisation's authorised contact answers B7 to B10 instead: the organisation's name and description, your name and position, and its street and postal addresses. 3 B11 to B14: Contact, past students and ID

Everyone answers these: your client number if known, where Immigration New Zealand should write to you, whether you have supported students before (with a table of up to 7 students; tick 'did not arrive' and FileIt prints N/A, as the form asks), and whether you have included a copy of your passport or identity document.

4 Section C: The undertaking

How long your undertaking lasts, which maintenance rate applies (school or tertiary), whether you also cover outward travel and maternity health services, whether you hold enough funds, and whether you have attached three months of bank statements.

5 Sections D and E: Declaration and bank

You sign and date the declaration. If you have not attached bank statements, your bank completes Section E to confirm you have an account with enough funds to cover the undertaking. FileIt lets you type in the bank's name and branch; the bank officer signs.

Common mistakes to avoid

Writing the student's name differently from their passport.
Filling in both B1–B6 and B7–B10. A person uses the first part, an organisation's contact the second.
Ticking the wrong maintenance rate for the student's level of study.
Answering No to C4 without asking your bank to complete Section E.
Leaving out previous students you have supported.
Forgetting the copy of your passport's identity page or of your identity document.

After you fill it out

Print the form and sign the declaration, or send it for e-signature from FileIt. If needed, take it to your bank for Section E.

Give the signed form and your evidence to the student, who includes it with the visa application. The form says Immigration New Zealand's Wellington PO Box is not where to send it. FileIt does not submit anything.
