What is ARS contributions exemption application?

This Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) form is the application for exemption on contributions to an Approved Retirement Scheme (ARS), made under section 13(1)(u) of the Income Tax Act. An employee who saves for retirement through an approved scheme uses it to ask TAJ to treat those contributions as exempt from income tax.

The two-page form, revised 08/09/2022, asks for your name, TRN, home address, date of birth and telephone number, the TRN of your scheme's administrator, your employer's name, TRN and business address, and your gross statutory income. It then asks about every Approved Retirement Scheme you belong to, active or deferred, the contribution rates to the active ones, any Approved Superannuation Fund your employer runs, the nature of your employment, your previous employer, deferred membership of a superannuation fund, transfers of accumulated contributions and any earlier rejected application.

FileIt asks these questions in plain language and prints the answers on TAJ's own PDF, one digit per TRN box and dates as mm/dd/yyyy as the form asks. Your name and date of birth can be pre-filled from your FileIt vault, and the completed form is filed in your folder. FileIt never submits anything to TAJ: you attach the supporting documents and hand the form in yourself.

Your employer's name, TRN and business address, and your gross statutory income.
