What is UDK 514 — Exemption from earmarked leave (fritagelse for øremærkning)?
Since 2 August 2022, part of each parent's leave with maternity/parental benefit (barselsdagpenge) in Denmark is earmarked: it belongs to that parent and is normally lost if they don't use it. For people who run their own limited company, taking those weeks can be hard. UDK 514 is Udbetaling Danmark's application to be exempted from the earmarking (fritagelse for øremærkning).
The form is short. After your own details and the child's, the section 'Din indkomst' asks whether you own 100 % of an aktie- or anpartsselskab (A/S or ApS), or less than that. If less, it asks what gives you control: more than half the share capital, the majority of the voting rights, or controlling influence in another way. It also asks whether you have other salary income besides your company.
Udbetaling Danmark prefers the digital application on borger.dk. If you use paper, FileIt explains each question in English with the Danish wording alongside, types your answers into the official PDF and saves it in your vault, ready to print, sign by hand and post. It doesn't decide whether you qualify. Udbetaling Danmark does.

How to fill out UDK 514 — Exemption from earmarked leave (fritagelse for øremærkning), step by step
1 Dine oplysninger (your details)
The parent's name, CPR number, address and phone number. The CPR number goes digit by digit into the ten boxes around the printed dash.
2 Barnets oplysninger (the child)
The child's name and CPR number. For a child without a Danish CPR number, the form asks for the date of birth in the same boxes, and FileIt prints it as DDMMYY.
3 Fuldmagt (power of attorney)
Only for someone applying on the parent's behalf: their own full name and CPR number, with a signed power of attorney enclosed. Search borger.dk for 'Fuldmagt til barselsdagpenge'.
4 Din indkomst (your income)
Tick whether you own 100 % or less than 100 % of the company. If less, tick one of: more than 50 % of the share capital, the majority of the voting rights, or controlling influence in another way. Then answer Ja or Nej to having other salary income besides the company.
5 Bemærkninger (remarks)
Three lines for anything else, for example how the ownership is split or the company's name and CVR number.
6 Erklæring, samtykke og underskrift (consent and signature)
Answer the consent question about exchanging information relevant to your case, then date and sign by hand.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using this form for a child born before 2 August 2022. Its title limits it to children born or received on or after that date.
- Ticking 'less than 100 %' without saying what gives you control of the company.
- Forgetting that the three control options can only be ticked one at a time. If more than one applies, say so under remarks.
- Leaving out the birth certificate or other proof of parenthood.
- Not signing, or saying no to consent without realising that may stop the case being handled.
