What is R0810 — Meldung zur KVdR?

Under § 201(1) SGB V, anyone applying for a German statutory pension also hands in a notification to the pensioners' health insurance (Krankenversicherung der Rentner, KVdR): form R0810. The health insurance fund uses it to decide whether you become a compulsory member as a pensioner, which also covers long-term care insurance. The notes say you file it even if you clearly won't qualify, for example after many years of private insurance.

The seven pages ask about you, your current work and insurance, other pensions and pension payments such as a company pension, your health insurance since 1996 and your children — each child can count three years towards the qualifying period — and, for a survivor's pension, the person who died. The last page is for the office that takes your application.

FileIt asks the questions in English with the German wording, follows the form's jumps, prints the insurance periods and dates in the official PDF and saves it in your vault. You sign it by hand and hand it in with your pension application.

How to fill out R0810 — Meldung zur KVdR, step by step

1 1 Angaben zur Person

Your names, date of birth, nationality, marital status and marriage date, insurance numbers and address.

2 2.1 to 2.5

Whether you are employed, self-employed, exempt from health insurance (as a civil servant, for example), released from compulsory insurance, or family-insured.

3 2.6 to 2.9

Other pensions — German, foreign or farmers' — and pension payments (Versorgungsbezüge) such as a company pension, also from abroad. These count for contributions.

4 3 Waisenrente

Only for an orphan's pension: were you privately insured just before applying? If not, give the date of death and the deceased's insurance number and go to the signature.

5 4.1 and 4.2

If you are already insured in the KVdR, give that fund and stop there. Otherwise give the date you first started work.

6 4.3 Bisherige Krankenversicherung

Each period since 1996 with the fund or insurer and the type: member, family insurance, private or none. FileIt prints each period as from – to. More than four periods go on R0811.

7 4.4 to 4.6

Your children and their relationship to you, whether you are a recognised late repatriate (Spätaussiedler) and when you moved here, and any work as a self-employed artist or publicist.

8 5 Verstorbener Versicherter

For widow's, widower's and orphan's pensions: the deceased's details, pension, KVdR membership, first job, insurance history and children.

9 6 and 7

Whether you apply for the subsidy to voluntary or private insurance (form R0820), whether R0811 is enclosed, then place, date and signature.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving gaps in the insurance history since 1996.
  • Forgetting foreign pensions or pension payments from abroad, which are also subject to contributions.
  • Leaving out children — they can shorten the qualifying period.
  • Filling part 4 after an orphan answered no at 3.1.
  • Filling part 8, which belongs to the office that takes the application.
  • Not ticking R0811 when you add more periods or children on it.

Hand it in with your pension application, with R0811 if you used it. FileIt doesn't submit anything.

R0810 — Meldung zur KVdR: frequently asked questions

What is the KVdR?

The Krankenversicherung der Rentner, the statutory health insurance for pensioners. It applies when you have been in the statutory scheme for at least 9/10 of the second half of your working life, among other conditions the health fund checks.

Do I need R0810 if I'm privately insured?

Yes. The notes say the notification is also filed when you clearly don't meet the conditions, because only the fund decides.

Why does the form ask about my children?

Each own, adopted, step- or foster child can count as three years towards the qualifying period, so the fund needs them.

What is R0811?

The supplementary sheet for more insurance periods or more children than the form has room for.

Who fills in the last page?

The office that takes your pension application, for example the Versicherungsamt or an insurance adviser. It confirms the application and your children's civil-status details.

Does FileIt send the form?

No. FileIt fills the official PDF and keeps a copy; you sign it and hand it in with your pension application.
