What is a content creator collaboration agreement?

Collabs are one of the fastest ways for creators to grow, and most are agreed in a few DMs. That works until a sponsor offers money for the series, one creator posts a week early, or a clip of the other turns up in an ad. A one-page understanding written up before the shoot protects the friendship and the content.

This template lists each creator's deliverables on its own channel and the shoot and posting schedule, plus any shared costs. It sets who owns the raw footage and how far each creator can reuse the other's, from the collab posts only up to anywhere with credit for a year. Sponsor money for the collaboration is split as you agree, each keeps its own ad revenue, and sponsored content is labelled. There is a short edit approval window, credit and tag rules, and a way out if one creator becomes embroiled in a controversy.

Using the content creator collaboration agreement, step by step

1 Name both creators

Enter each creator's legal name and main channel or handle, then describe the collaboration in a line.

2 List the deliverables and dates

Write what each creator posts on its own channel, the filming dates and when content goes live. Add how shared costs such as travel are split.

3 Decide rights and money

Choose who owns raw footage and how far each can reuse the other's. Set the split of any sponsorship sold for the collab itself.

4 Set approvals and sign

Choose how many days each has to approve an edit they appear in. Send it to the other creator to sign on any device.

Tips before you send it

  • Agree the exact time posts go live in one time zone, especially if you want both to publish at the same moment.
  • Check that any music you use is licensed for both channels. A claim on one channel can hit the other.
  • Tell your audience about paid partnerships using each platform's own branded-content tools as well as in the caption.
  • If one creator brings a sponsor that already pays them for their own channel, agree in writing whether it can appear in the collab.

Content creator collaboration agreement: frequently asked questions

Who owns the video after a collab?

Each creator owns the finished posts on its own channel. You choose whether raw footage belongs to whoever filmed it or to both jointly, and how far each can reuse the other's footage.

Do we split YouTube or TikTok ad revenue?

No. Each creator keeps what its own platforms pay. Only sponsorship sold for the collaboration itself is split.

Can one creator stop the other posting an unflattering edit?

They can ask for reasonable changes to how they are shown, factual fixes, or for private or embarrassing material to be cut within the approval window. They cannot demand wider creative changes.

Is this the same as an influencer agreement?

No. An influencer agreement is between a brand and a creator it pays. This one is between two creators working as equals.
