What is Kela Y 8e - self-employment income (child care allowances)?
When a family in Finland applies for child home care allowance or private day care allowance with the income-tested care supplement, or for flexible or partial care allowance, Kela needs to know the family's income. Salaries come from the national incomes register, but self-employment income does not, so Kela asks for form Y 8e: one statement for each company.
Y 8e is two pages: who the claimant and the self-employed person are, the company and its company form, the owners and their percentages, dividend income for the most recent full accounting period, and — for a recently established company — the start-up grant, the income confirmed for the YEL or MYEL pension insurance and your own monthly estimate. Section 7 lists the documents to enclose for each company form.
FileIt turns Y 8e into a short guided form and prints your answers into Kela's own English PDF, edition 03.25. It repeats your details when you are the self-employed person, checks personal identity codes and the Business ID, only asks the enclosure questions that match your company form, and prints euro amounts Finnish style (1 250,50). The finished PDF is saved in your vault and can be sent for e-signature; you send it to Kela yourself.

How to fill out Kela Y 8e - self-employment income (child care allowances), step by step
1 1. Claimant
The person applying for the child care allowance: personal identity code and name. The code is repeated at the foot of page 2.
2 2. Self-employed person
Say whether you or your spouse or partner is the self-employed person. If it is you, FileIt copies your details; otherwise give their identity code and name.
3 3. Company
The company's name and Business ID, its company form (private trader, general partnership, limited liability company, limited partnership or other, such as a tax or agricultural consortium), the start date of the activity and the accounting period. Kela gets the address from the Business Information System (YTJ).
4 4. Ownership percentages
Up to three owners and their ownership percentages. FileIt checks that the percentages don't add up to more than 100.
5 5. Wage and dividend income
Kela gets salary information from the national incomes register, so only the self-employed person's dividend income per accounting period is asked.
6 6. Recently established company
For a new company: the start-up grant per day and the period it is paid for, the income reported for the YEL or MYEL pension insurance, and your own estimate of the monthly income the activity brings your family.
7 7. Enclosures
Tick what you send. The documents depend on the company form: for a private trader one of the tax assessment decision, the business tax return or an income statement; for a partnership the tax return or income statement and the partnership agreement; for a limited company the dividend certificate; for other forms the corporate information statement and a business tax return or the partner's own tax decision.
8 8. Signature
Place and date, signature and printed name, under the declaration that the information is true and that you will notify any changes.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Putting two companies on one form — Kela asks for a separate Y 8e for each company.
- Filling in Y 8e as a salaried partner in a limited liability company; that income is reported on WH 1e instead.
- Ownership percentages that add up to more than 100.
- Forgetting the enclosures for the company form you ticked in section 3.
- Leaving out the start-up grant period or the YEL income for a company that has no full accounting period yet.

What is Kela form Y 8e?
Y 8e is Kela's English appendix to the child care allowance applications. It gives Kela the details of self-employment income — the company, its owners, dividends and, for a new company, the start-up grant and YEL income — so the care supplement or flexible / partial care allowance can be worked out.
Do I need one form for each company?
Yes. The form says a separate form Y 8e must be completed for each company.
I'm a salaried partner in a limited company — do I fill in Y 8e?
No. The form says a salaried partner in a limited liability company need not complete this statement and should report the income details on form WH 1e.
Why doesn't the form ask for my salary?
Kela obtains salary information from the national incomes register, so section 5 only asks for the dividend income for the most recent full accounting period.
My business is brand new. What do I fill in?
Section 6: the start-up grant per day and its period, the income you reported for the YEL or MYEL pension insurance, and your own estimate of the monthly income the activity brings your family.
Can I fill in Y 8e online with FileIt?
Yes. FileIt asks the questions in order, shows only the enclosure questions for your company form, and prints your answers into Kela's official PDF, which is saved in your vault.
Does FileIt send the form to Kela?
No. You post it to Kela, PL 10, 00056 KELA, or file it online at www.kela.fi/english yourself.
