What is Passport / ID card application, children (Antrag für Minderjährige)?
German children who live abroad get their passport or identity card from the German embassy or consulate responsible for where they live. The missions use an application for minors (Antrag für Minderjährige) that the parents fill in beforehand and bring to the in-person appointment, where the child's details are checked and, from age six, fingerprints are taken.
The three-page form asks which document you want — passport, 48 pages, express, identity card, passport substitute or temporary passport — the child's names, birth details, height, eye colour and address, the last address in Germany, both parents with custody, how the child became German, other citizenships and earlier German documents. The fourth page is the mission's data-protection notice.
FileIt asks the questions in English, fills the German form in the official PDF and saves it in your vault, under the child. Both parents then sign at the mission, showing their own passports or ID cards.

Surname, birth name, first names, any name change since the last document, date and place of birth, height, eye colour and sex.

Place and date, and each signer's passport or ID number. The signatures are given by hand at the mission.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using this form for a 16- or 17-year-old's identity card — the form's footnote sends them to the adult application.
- Coming without the other parent's consent or presence when both have custody.
- Leaving out a second citizenship.
- Forgetting the deregistration certificate when the old document shows a German address.
- Writing names differently from the birth certificate.
After you fill it out
Print the form and bring it to the appointment with the child, the documents and the fee. Don't sign beforehand unless the mission tells you to — the signers show their ID there.
The mission checks the details, takes the photo and fingerprints from age six, and orders the document. FileIt doesn't book or submit anything.
The filled form stays in your FileIt vault under the child, ready for the next renewal.

Can I apply for my child's German passport by post?
Passport applications are made in person at the German mission responsible for where you live. The child comes along, and from age six fingerprints are taken.

The form has signature lines for both parents with custody, each identified by their passport or ID number. If one parent can't come, ask your mission what it accepts.
My child is 17. Which form?
For a passport, this one. For an identity card, the form's footnote says applicants over 16 use the adult application.

Does FileIt book the appointment?
No. FileIt fills the official PDF; you book the appointment with your mission and bring the form.
